Managing the Complexity: what Brexit could mean for British business

July 6, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Organised by the European Institute

What would it mean for companies in Britain and Europe if no Brexit deal is agreed? How long will business need to adapt to such a scenario?

CBI Director-General Carolyn Fairbairn and Chief Economist Rain Newton-Smith will consider these important questions from the vantage point of British business.

Carolyn Fairbairn (@cbicarolyn) joined the CBI as Director General in November 2015 following a 25 year career in British business. She spent her early career at McKinsey, before taking on a range of senior leadership roles in the media industry.

Rain Newton-Smith (@RainNewtonSmith) is the Chief Economist at the Confederation of British Industry. Previous positions include Head of Emerging Markets at Oxford Economics, international forecast for the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England. She is currently co-Chair of the Young Global Leaders Taskforce on the Circular Economy. In 2016, she was listed in City AM’s Power 100 women. She is on the Policy Committee of the LSE’s Centre for Economic Performance.

Tony Travers is Director of LSE London, a research centre at the London School of Economics. He is also a Visiting Professor in the LSE’s Government Department.

The LSE European Institute (@LSEEI) is a centre for research and graduate teaching on the processes of integration and fragmentation within Europe. In the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) the Institute was ranked first for research in its sector.
