My advise to those looking for meaningful and worthwhile overseas volunteering projects is to volunteer with a charity as you know your money will be going back into the placements, to make sure they are ethical and sustainable, not into the pockets of a huge money making company. Also, you should look for organisations that have been around for a long time and who have a good alumni who they can put you in touch with as returned volunteers are the best people to give you a real idea of what you’re getting into.
