The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding is an exclusive resource for LSE students and staff that identifies sources of funding – especially from charities – which can grant awards to students regardless of subject or nationality.
Over the last three months, more than 60 new charities have been added to the funding database, including:
Barry Amiel & Norman Melburn Trust
Grants for history, philosophy, sociology, economics and other subjects whose studies increase knowledge of the philosophy of Marxism, the history of socialism, or the working class movement. For research expenses only – not conferences, fees, or maintenance.
British Institute in Eastern Africa
This funding supports original research in the humanities and social sciences. Grants are normally between £500 and £1,000. Priority is given to researchers based in the UK or eastern Africa. Closing date: beginning of January.
Council for British Research in the Levant
Grants for research into the humanities and social sciences in the Levant.
Economic History Society
Grants – normally of up to £500 – to assist postgraduate students with travel expenses incurred in the undertaking of research into any aspect of economic and social history.
The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding also includes examples and advice on letters of request, funding applications and personal and financial statements.
