SVW2015Student Volunteering Week 2015 (#LSESVW15) is taking place across the UK between 23 February and 1 March. At LSE, we have a whole host of exciting events taking place on-campus for students to get involved in (so many, in fact, that our Student Volunteering week extends to 3 March!). Whether you like running, community groups, live music, fundraising or just giving your time for a good cause, this week is for you. Here’s what’s coming up:

February 23 – Meet City Year

City Year will be in the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre first floor cafe to talk to students about its inspiring work and volunteering opportunities.

February 24 – Meet IntoUniversity

IntoUniversity will be at the entrance to the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre to talk to students about its work and opportunities to get involved.

February 25 – LSE Good Deed Day and LSE Volunteer Centre finds out why LSE students volunteer

The LSE Volunteer Centre and its Student Volunteering Ambassadors will be in the entrance to the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre to find out why LSE students give up their time for so many good causes throughout the year.

We’ll also be shouting about the #UpForSchool petition – a global campaign to get every child into school and learning as part of #LSEGoodDeedDay. We’ll be collecting signatures from LSE students to put pressure on governments, politicians and leaders to take education seriously and make it so that all out-of-school children get to gain their right to a safe education before the end of 2015.

We’ve linked up with Good Gym so you can get fit whilst doing good in the local community for as part of #LSEGoodDeedDay. You’ll meet new people and complete a 7km run to help make London a better place. You’ll be helping a local community group. View full details and sign up on LSE CareerHub.

February 26 – Meet Privacy International

Privacy International will be at the entrance to the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre to talk to students about its work and opportunities to get involved.

February 27 – Lensational is collecting cameras

Lensational, an LSE-based charity, is collecting second-hand cameras from students to send to women in Pakistan. Lensational’s work encourages under-privileged women to express themselves through photography and earn an income through selling their photos. If you have a camera that you don’t need anymore, please bring it either to LSE Careers or the entrance of the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre.

March 2 – LSESU UNSOC volunteering skills training session

Are you interested in volunteering abroad, learning about different cultures and developing useful career skills? The LSESU UNSOC is organising a training session with tips about how to choose the best volunteering opportunities, skills training for campaigning and public speaking, and information about opportunities to volunteer in China. Register in advance to attend.

March 3 – YTFN @ LSE

We’ve joined forces with LSE SU RAG and The Youth Funding Network (YTFN) to bring an event to warm the heart. Three small charities will be pitching and then you get to decide who gets your funding and time. We have fantastic entertainment lined up with live music from the LSE Houghtones and an open mic session. Don’t miss out! Buy your tickets for this event online or double the amount you donate for free by purchasing your tickets through the Santander branch on-campus.
