In response to the current refugee crisis, many people across the UK are pledging their support to help. From donating clothes to lobbying local councils to provide accommodation – there are lots of ways you can make a difference.
LSESU has put together a list of some really useful ways to get involved on their website and has been doing a brilliant job collecting and sorting clothes donations. Visit their page for more information how to support through petitions, and putting pressure on the right people.
There are also a number of ways you can support refugees who will be arriving in the UK in the coming weeks and months. Many charities are currently recruiting volunteers, a few of which are highlighted below.
Whilst many people want to work directly with refugees, supporting charities behind the scenes can be just as beneficial, and often these are roles that the charities find harder to fill.
Salusbury WORLD Refugee Centre: Volunteer Mentors for young refugees and migrants
Save the Children: Volunteer Speaker
British Red Cross: Family Reunion Administration Volunteer
Holy Cross Centre Trust: Crypt Volunteer
As well as exploring roles advertised on CareerHub, why not investigate your local area and find out if you can help with any small scale support groups and initiatives? Good luck with your volunteering.
