LSE Generate: Michaelmas Term funding competition results

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Last Friday, Generate hosted its own version of Dragon’s Den with the final round of our Michaelmas Term funding competition. 14 finalists, selected from over 60 initial applicants, pitched in front of our panellists of industry experts. Each team was given 15 minutes to pitch followed by 15 minutes to answer tough questions from the panel. At the end of the day, the panels spent a difficult hour deciding which projects to fund given the high level of pitching across the projects.

We are excited to announce that the following projects were particularly noted for their promise and won funding:

QSense –“Food venue analytics for customers and businesses using wireless beacons.”

SensePro – “We allow motion-controlled filming for action sport cameras saving energy runtime and editing time by intelligent sensors that are automatically detecting motion patterns to start and stop filming.”

HavSpace – “India’s first mobile-based peer to peer shipping platform.”

Kain – “A whistleblowing/analytics startup that will not only protect stakeholders, but will also make companies more fiscally and operationally efficient.”

Yonder – “A mobile and web application which shows you the cheapest flight destinations on the days you want to get away.”

If you’d like to pitch your business or social enterprise project to our panel of judges for the chance to win up to £10,000, why not apply in Lent Term?

The competition will open for your first round entries on Monday 18 January and you’ll have two weeks until Friday 1 February to submit an initial overview of your idea. If you get through to the next round, you’ll be asked to submit a detailed business case and video pitch. Those successful at this stage will be invited to pitch for funding in the final. Full details will be confirmed in due course on Generate’s website. We’ll be holding an information session on the competition during the first week of Lent Term (11-15 Jan), so check the events listing on CareerHub nearer the time.

As well as Generate’s funding competitions, there are other opportunities to pitch your idea across London and within LSE. In the New Year, you can pitch your social enterprise or charity idea with YFTN at LSE on 26 January to win up to £1,000 of funding. You can also find more opportunities on New Entrepreneurs Foundation’s extensive list of UK-based incubators and accelerators, and funding platforms.

We’ll return with more events in Lent Term with a broad focus on social entrepreneurship. So make sure you read this blog, follow us on Twitter @LSEGenerate, and visit our website to hear about our upcoming events!
