Through the Tata Social Internship Scheme, LSE has been awarded a total of nine projects working on social entrepreneurship, environmental development, and corporate social responsibility community-based projects. Projects run for eight weeks and interns are based in India during this period.

In 2016 we have some really interesting projects covering the following areas:

Projects

Tata Chemicals, Mithapur

  • Livelihood (non-farm based): Understanding women’s collective and its impact on their interactions in public and private spaces.
  • Cost-cost benefit analysis study to ascertain the feasibility of marketing organic manure (in villages or outside) produced through the Organic Waste Converter project.

Tata Chemicals, Babrala

  • Topic still to be identified by the company

Tata Power

  • To study and make brief reports as a whole on corporate responsibility activities carried out on Education Excellence Programme, Remedial Coaching Centre, and health and sanitation.
  • Business sustainability projects: Project 1 – what it takes to be a Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) member. Analysing company preparedness/gap analysis for corporate sustainability assessment. Project 2 – benchmarking sustainability practices with global leaders.

Tata Trusts

  • Internal migration – documentation, research and mapping of the patterns of movement of  migrants.
  • Internal migration – research and mapping of housing/habitat choices, decisions and options available to internal migrants.
  • Grey and wastewater management – on site micro solutions for urban slums – action based research.

Taj

  • Supporting Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces community-based tourism projects.
