TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is an incredible opportunity to travel the world whilst earning money in fun-filled, exciting and challenging role. So it’s no wonder that thousands of people in the UK are signing up every year.

Taking a TEFL course with give you skills, knowledge and certificate to teach English abroad in places like China, Vietnam or Spain. And it is as easy as attending a classroom for a weekend and/or completing flexible, self-paced online training.

However, there are a number of TEFL course providers out there – so choosing which one to take your course with can be tricky. Here are a few tips about what to look for when choosing who to do a TEFL course with:

Accreditation

There is no governing body for TEFL, that’s why it’s important to look at who a course is accredited by.  The more accreditation a course has from recognised independent educational bodies, the more you can be assured of the course quality and the better this will look to employers.

Length

TEFL qualifications are measured by the number of hours you complete, and generally employers look for a minimum of 120 hours of training when hiring EFL teachers. So make sure you complete enough hours to be eligible for the widest range of jobs.

Price

For most TEFL courses you get what you pay for, and if a price seems too good to be true it might well be. It’s important to invest in a high-quality course to ensure you are fully prepared for the role of teaching and also have a certificate that will be recognised by international TEFL employers.

Support

As with any course, having someone to refer to for advice and guidance is extremely important. Find out if you have a named tutor you can contact throughout your course to answer any questions and provide you with feedback.
