Applications for BPTC Scholarships – deadline Friday 4 November 2016
Final year law students, LLB graduates and master’s degree students with a qualifying law degree intending to take the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) starting in 2017, are advised to apply for a BPTC scholarship from one of the four Inns of Court.
Applications should be made direct to the Inns themselves, but students are only permitted to make an application to one Inn. Further details and applications forms can be found on their respective websites:
- The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn
- The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn
- The Honourable Society of Inner Temple
- The Honourable Society of Middle Temple
The deadline is Friday 4 November 2016 for each Inn, although the time of day by which applications should be received may differ for each so please check the website of the Inn you’re applying to carefully.
There’s still time to attend an open day or event at one of the Inns before submitting the application. You don’t have to be a member of an Inn at this stage. You could also attend the Bar Council Pupillage Fair on Saturday 22 October (see details below for booking).
Scholarships for the GDL
The Inns of Court also offer scholarships for the Graduate Diploma in Law (the GDL is also known as CPE or the conversion course) for students who don’t hold a qualifying law degree and who wish to train as a barrister. Students should apply for these by the first Friday in May for the GDL starting in autumn 2017.
Events
The events below have been designed to give students the opportunity to learn more about the profession as a whole, an insight into applications and training for the Bar as well as opportunities to speak to practising barristers:
- Lincoln’s Inn open days, Wednesdays in October starting at 2pm
- Inner Temple, Wednesday 26 October 5:30-8.30pm, book your place on the website
- The Bar Council Pupillage Fair, Saturday 22 October at the University of Law, Moorgate
Also don’t forget our Careers at the Bar networking breakfast on campus on 26 January 2016, where we will have representatives from a number of London chambers present.
