Professor Hans Maarse has a full chair in Health Care Policy Analysis in the Faculty of Health Sciences of theUniversity ofMaastricht. His main fields of interest are health care finance, the institutional structure of health care policymaking, the international comparative analysis of health care systems and the impact of the European Union on national health (care) policies. Recently, he directed a study on the possibilities and effects of market competition in Dutch health care. He has published studies about the impact of market competition in health care and about political decision-making on the package of health services (benefits) in public health insurance arrangements in Europe.

Javier Martin-Peña has a doctorate in Psychology, and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Work at the University of Zaragoza. He has previously worked at the Faculties of Psychology and Law in the University of Barcelona. He is a member of the “INVICTUS Research Group”, at the University of Barcelona. His research interests principally include terrorist violence, psychological violence, harassment, victims of terrorism, and psychosocial effects, among others. His PhD consisted of a qualitative research study on violence and terrorist threats perpetrated by ETA over victims and threatened people in the Basque Country. Thomas Mirow is the fifth president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Mr Mirow has worked as the Assistant and then as Chef de cabinet to former German Chancellor Willy Brandt, then Chairman of Germany’s Social Democratic party, and served as Director of the Press Office of the city-state of Hamburg, Mr Mirow held several senior positions within the Hamburg administration between 1991 and 2001, including state minister for economics. Petr Nečas was sworn in as Prime Minister of the Czech Republic by the President in July 2010, after the Czech general election in 2010, and won a vote of confidence for his government from Parliament in August 2010. He leads the Civic Democratic Party (ODS). Prior to becoming the Prime Minister, Petr Nečas served as a Minister of Labor and Social Affairs and a Deputy Prime Minister in 2006-9, and as the First Deputy Minister of Defense in 1995-6.
