Leading the way out of the crisis? The Barcelona solution

BarcelonaFrom turning an industrial site into a sandy beach in time for the 1992 Olympics to the creation of social housing using private capital, Barcelona has attracted international attention for its urban regeneration programme.

The city has now established a mayoral office focused on urban habitat. This department is designing Barcelona’s future, renovating the classical concept of the ‘city’. Its goal is to offer a sustainable and replicable road to solve the economic crisis affecting western countries.

Antoni Vives, Barcelona’s Deputy Mayor for Urban Habitat, and Vicente Guallart, Barcelona’s Chief Architect, will be participating in debates at LSE on 22 February on their city’s solution.

The day of expert workshops will culminate in a public lecture chaired by Professor Paul Preston from 6-7.30pm, in the Wolfson Theatre, New Academic Building, LSE, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London. All are welcome and there is no need to book.

The event will be hosted by the Catalan Observatory and LSE Enterprise.
