For the second year running, Fundación Rafael del Pino in Spain has sponsored custom programmes at LSE. In collaboration with Professor Luis Garicano, LSE Enterprise delivered two one-week programmes in September.
LSE welcomed the second group of participants to the Empirics of Management programme. The 25 young scholars, who gained a place through open competition across Spain to spend a week with top faculty from LSE on research into management and business issues, have engaged with faculty such as Professor John Sutton (Economics), Professor Daniel Ferreira (Finance), Dr Jordi Blanes-y-Vidal (Management), Dr Catherine Thomas (Management) and Dr Dirk Genter (Finance).
Better Regulation and Markets: An Excellence Programme focused on topics within competition law and regulation. This was the first year that this programme took place at LSE. It comprised 25 participants working in competition and regulation in collaboration with Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC). During the week, the participants attended sessions with LSE faculty including Professor John Sutton (Economics) and from the Law Department, Professors Martin Lodge, John Sutton, Robert Baldwin and Dr Carsten Gerner-Beuerle, Dr Niamh Dunne and Dr Orla Lynskey. They also had a guest session with Dr Mike Walker, Chief Economic Advisor at the UK Competition and Markets Authority.
Adam Austerfield, Head of Global Markets at LSE Enterprise remarked during the joint welcome reception:
This group of outstanding young scholars, business researchers and faculty gained a place on the programme through merit in a highly competitive application process, so we´re delighted they are here at LSE for a whole week. This particular programme is one of the highest, most technically demanding courses run by us, but with great quality students and faculty the results have been just as we hoped – outstanding. The vision of Luis Garicano and support of the Fundación Rafael del Pino has combined to make this a high value, high impact programme for the cohort and then for their colleagues and fellow scholars back in Spain.
