The participants on the ‘Global Political Economy and the Role of the Public Sector’ programme are halfway through their eleven-week custom programme at LSE, learning about international political economy and public sector management. This is the ninth cohort of Hong Kong civil servants to undertake an LSE Custom Programme.
The participants write:
I find the custom programme very well-designed to address our training needs. The private seminars are conducted in an interactive manner to enable us to reflect on topics which are most relevant to our work in the Government, such as deregulation and analysis of the policy-making process. We often come across these issues in our work and the classes have afforded us a breathing space to think more deeply about them. I also very much appreciate the interflow arranged by LSE with another group of professionals from the Basque Country who are also on a custom programme. Through the joint social events and co-participation in the interactive trade exercise and seminars, I managed to learn a lot from their alternative perspective as they are from a different background in the private sector. Attending the world-renowned LSE is a time of reflection and self-discovery, because you can tell how much you don’t know and how much you can know. It’s just hard to NOT be inspired! There are so many opportunities to keep overachieving! Every door is open. You can take classes and seminars from reputable researchers, and join the very famous public lecturers unlimitedly. And you may even bump into Nobel Prize winners when you are diving in the sea of books in the library. And it’s a blast. Yes, study hard, but play hard, too; discover London, go to classes, hang out in museums and galleries, enjoy lunch concert, watch musical, attend public lectures, etc. It’s pretty good stuff. Ellen
I found the public events fascinating and informative. The diverse topics covered in the numerous public events, including but not limited to current issues, provide an interesting forum for me to learn more about things that I have never heard of. The participants also offer a lot to the public events by asking questions from various perspectives. The public events are definitely a highlight in the programme. Noel
