The first LSE Masterclass in Social Sciences of 2016 will take place in Madrid from Monday 11 to Wednesday 13 April. The programme is free, kindly sponsored by the Fundación Ramón Areces.

This masterclass will be on Climate Change – After Paris what next?. It will be taught by LSE academics Dr Luca Taschini, Dr Graham Floater and Dimitri Zenghelis, and will focus on the key outcomes and challenges after the Paris Climate Change Conference (COP 21).

The first day will focus on international emissions trading, beginning with looking at market failures, environment externalities and market based instruments. This will be followed by a more comparative approach looking at the European emissions trading system and carbon pricing around the globe. The second day will focus on cities and the green economy with a special focus on urban innovation. The masterclass will close with close with a discussion around costs of carbon reduction, innovation and competitiveness.
