LSE Global Pensions Conference 2016 Brazil Adam Austerfield

The fourth LSE global pensions programme has now concluded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Over four days, speakers from LSE, Santander Asset Management, Novaster, Inter-American Development Bank and the Florida State Board of Administration presented on a variety of pension topics.

The programme covered economic theory, as well as practical experience, current pension trends and risks. In addition to looking at pensions with a global perspective, the first day looked more specifically at opportunities in Brazil and the new legal framework in Europe for pension funds. Focus turned to Latin American pensions on the second and third day, with presentations on labour markets, pensions and social security coverage.

After covering large pension funds and their challenges, the programme drew to a close on the final day with the delegates learning about the latest information on behavioural economics in pensions.

In the vicinity of the famous Copacabana Beach, the programme participants enjoyed a workshop facilitated by Santander Asset Management, as well as a closing lunch concluding the week’s events.
