Lazzat Alimbekova is an expert phonographist from the Central Forensic Institute (Astana), Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Phonography is the transcribing of speech using symbols to represent elements of sound, which is Lazzat’s main area of interest alongside forensic linguistics.

Here, Lazzat talks about her experience in London studying on the LSE Bolashak 2015 – 2016 Custom Programme:

The chance to study at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), one of the best universities in the UK, is a great honour.

First of all, I would like to say that the programme at the LSE is both well organised and varied. The university has delivered a broad and stimulating schedule, consisting of lectures, seminars and workshops. We have also visited museums and courts, and attended public lectures by renowned economists, politicians, professors and writers.

Another feature of the LSE is their original approach to learning: the programme encourages independence of thought, and fosters an approach to the subject which lends equal weight to both theoretical and practical knowledge. Skills such as making presentations and writing critical articles and reviews are developed.

The university library is another fantastic resource, in which an abundance of relevant and interesting information can be found. From my perspective as a forensic scientist, this degree of access to cutting-edge research material has proven enormously useful.

Last but not least, we are always fully supported by the team of highly qualified professors and administrative staff assigned to us. They are always very friendly and willing to help in solving any of our issues, as well as giving us pertinent advice.
