Award for excellence in teaching Applications are open for the European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities, administered by the Central European University and open to academics in the social sciences and humanities who teach at higher education institutions in countries of the European Higher Education Area. Staff can be nominated or make applications direct, and the Teaching and Learning Centre is happy to support either application route: please write to Dr Liz Barnett – firstname.lastname@example.org – in the first instance. Applications must be received no later than Monday 20 January 2014.
Free seminar series The Higher Education Academy (HEA) has launched a new seminar series looking at inspirational leaders in learning and teaching. The events will be held in the HEA’s York office but simultaneous webcasts will enable delegates to attend either in person or virtually. The first event – on open online learning – takes place on Tuesday 21 January, 12:45-15:00. It is free but bookings (for both in-person and webinar places) must be made: see the HEA’s Inspirational Leadership Seminar 1 for more information.
Funding opportunity The HEA is also currently offering funding of up to £60,000 under its Teaching Development Grants – Collaborative Scheme, for projects from two or more departments or other groupings within or between higher education institutions that support the enhancement of learning and teaching. Applications close at midday on Friday 24 January 2014.
