Five tips to ace your LSE application

Applications for LSE’s programmes are now open – but before you submit, check out our tips straight from the Graduate Admissions office. See a full list of our Management programmes or come learn about them in person at our upcoming event.

  1. Do your research

We receive applications from lots of prospective students who are attracted to the school by LSE’s reputation, but what we’re really interested in is why you chose your specific management programme. Take the time to show your understanding of the programme, why you chose it over others and why LSE’s approach to learning appeals to you.

  1. Keep your application focused on your ideal programme

What are you excited to learn? How do you hope to apply your new knowledge? What fresh perspective will you bring to your cohort and in classroom discussions?

Make sure to include all these details in your personal statement!

  1. Focus on the outcome you want

Whilst you need to show what you’ll bring to the programme we also want to hear about how this programme will help you get where you want to go. Tell us about your ambitions, and how you think the programme will help you to achieve them.

  1. It’s all about the personal statement

Be sure to pay special attention to your personal statement. This is your chance to express your personality, so try to be as authentic as you can. Remember to discuss your motivation for applying, what you’ll gain from studying on the programme and any relevant education and work experience that you done.

Always read through any guidance notes and address each of the points within them. And don’t let your completed application be spoiled by a silly mistake. Be sure to upload the final version rather than an earlier draft – and don’t forget to check carefully for spelling and errors!

  1. Apply early!

Candidates for LSE Department of Management programmes are selected on a rolling basis – so there’s no strict deadline for application.  As soon as we’ve received enough promising applications, we close the programme. Last year, some closed as early as February, others as late as June. Your best bet is to get your name in the ring before the rush.
