    Hi,
I was interested to read the article by Elizabeth Cotton on anger in the workplace. Based on what I hear from people I know there seems to be a belief that we are becoming a much angrier nation. I personally believe this is born out of frustration but I also recognise that this is a simplistic approach and the answer is probably more complicated. On a personal note I have just quit my job as it wasn’t making me happy, in fact it was making me miserable and angry at times. I don’t know what I’m going to do next but that’s exciting as well as being a little scary! Anyways, in my experience of working for a large financial services company I found management and the corporation itself, adopted great key words/values, published ethics and imposed expectations on it’s staff that were all very commendable but in reality, never really held either it’s managers or itself accountable to these statements. I was one and for the next couple of weeks, still am, one of it’s managers. I’m largely quitting as I don’t believe I’m working in an honest environment. Why should work be like this?! Sure, the need for profits means the needs of the individual sometimes get overlooked, but also I think that corporate culture can be a breeding ground for lots of behaviours that don’t evolve anyone or anything. I think there is much to be explored on this subject as work is such a big part of many peoples lives it’s hard not to let it affect your wider life. I know this isn’t a new idea but I do think it’s a growing concern.
As I’m soon to have a bit of time on my hands :-) can you recommend some ways in which I can research this in more depth for my new (work in progress) blog?
Many thanks for reading this and great site!
    Matt
