At LSE, staying in London over the Christmas holidays kind of feels like Harry Potter staying at Hogwarts in his first year; left behind.
BUT, we, the Harry Potters of 2016, are actually pretty lucky. Christmas in London has a lot to offer – here are a few of the things I look forward to most:
- Christmas markets: South Bank, Camden, Winter Wonderland (Hyde Park), Angel… they’re everywhere! They’re fun to just walk around with a hot drink in hand, or if you want to splash out you can buy anything from handmade crafts to kilos of sweets to rides on rollercoasters
- Mulled wine: ’tis the season to have a free conscience drinking wine on a daily basis. For no real reason…
- Smiling Londoners: it’s rare, you might need to do a double-take, but there is such thing as Christmas cheer in London. Office workers have Christmas dos, people become more charitable, everyone wraps up so doesn’t mind being outside and talking to others on the street. Savour these moments.
- Christmas films: whether you’re heading to the cinema to watch old replays, new releases or throwing your Christmas jumper and socks over some pyjamas and relaxing at home – indulge in some Christmas rom coms, family dramas and general silliness. Elf/The Grinch are personal favourites – it wouldn’t be Christmas without them!
To everyone who ‘s leaving this city – enjoy the sun, enjoy your escape from the tube and the crazy bustle of London – but speaking for those of us who are staying; we’re going to be just fine.
