Staying in London this Christmas? Why not volunteer? There’s many reasons why volunteering can help you settle into London, but volunteering at Christmas will definitely get you into the festive mood. From helping to address homelessness to reducing food waste, there are plenty of different causes you can support this year.
You don’t have to commit to Christmas day itself; there are lots of opportunities in the great build up to the 25th of December. But applications often close early – so make sure you sign-up as early as possible. Try to register your interest by the end of November at the latest, as amazingly there are a lot of people who want to volunteer on Christmas day.
In London, many people don’t have access to a warm, food-filled Christmas due to personal circumstances. This is where charity steps in. Organisations like Crisis open their doors to provide a full Christmas roast, haircuts, wellbeing workshops and much more.
Whether it’s chopping up a carrot, having a friendly conversation or just singing some Christmas carols, volunteering is a brilliant way to make a difference to someone’s Christmas. Don’t forget, we’re also doing hosting some Christmas volunteering opportunities during term time. Check out our one-off session writing cards to children at St Ormond’s Street Hospital and information on how you can get involved in Giving Tuesday.
