Student Volunteering Week is a national week that celebrates the amazing work students do in their local and wider communities, acknowledged by universities, students and charities across the UK. It celebrates student volunteering by focusing on the way it:

1. Improves student wellbeing
2. Develops students’ employability
3. Contributes positively to the wider and local community life

This year, Student Volunteering Week will be celebrated during Week 4 of Lent Term (10-16 February). Our research shows that 40% of students volunteer whilst they are studying at LSE and we know that those who do volunteer are more likely to feel part of the LSE community. For Student Volunteering Week 2020 we’re focusing on the benefits of student volunteering on the student, the charity and their beneficiaries.

How can you get involved?
We’re calling all LSE SU societies to get involved in Student Volunteering Week 2020 here at LSE! Lots of societies already volunteer together and those of you who are on your society committee are volunteering too. We want to celebrate all of this and encourage your society to get involved. But how?

1. Bring your team/society to one of the one-off volunteering sessions: We’re hosting two one-offs during Student Volunteering with the Felix Project and Post Pals! 
2. Get involved in our photo and video campaign: we’re looking for society committee members, society volunteering groups and any student volunteers who want to be interviewed or have their picture taken to support the week!
3. Organise your own volunteering event for your society: why not arrange to take a whole group of people volunteering? From litter picks to sponsored runs, stalls outside the SU to social fundraisers there is a wide variety of events you could host to showcase your volunteering. Don’t hesitate to get in touch (volunteer@lse.ac.uk) if you need ideas or support, and of course we’ll promote your events across our channels!

It’s a great way to be involved in a national campaign celebrated by universities all over the UK! It’s also a fun and creative way to earn points for your LSESU Star Awards.
