LSE Careers update in response to COVID-19

Estimated reading time: 10 minutes

The health and safety of the LSE community is a key priority for LSE Careers. In light of the School’s recent response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we as a service are absolutely committed to ensuring the continuity of careers support and guidance for you all. This means initially increasing the delivery of services such as appointments virtually as well as taking the difficult decision to cancel some of our events in the coming weeks.

Below you’ll find a full overview of what this means for accessing our support.

We understand that many of you will be concerned about employer events and recruitment in the coming months. We are in regular contact with employers and are aware that COVID-19 is causing disruption to activities. We will continue to gather information so we have a good overall picture of the situation. We do recommend contacting employers directly for information regarding individual circumstances.

We’ve compiled a list of FAQs that we’ve had from students over the past few weeks. If you can’t find the answer to your question please get in touch with us through whichever means that works best for you. If you are concerned or have any questions about Coronavirus and LSE’s response, please refer to the School’s FAQ page which is updated daily.

LSE Careers support:

All appointments taking place virtually

All appointments will now be taking place via Skype. This includes careers discussions, practice interviews and CV and cover letter feedback.

Drop-ins at LSE LIFE will also now take place virtually until the end of Lent term.

Bookings for all Skype appointments will open the 7 days before at 9.30am. If you want to discuss your CV, cover letter or an application make sure you upload your documents when booking.

Practice interview bookings remain the same and can be booked 30 days in advance.

From 16 April we will be offering appointments outside of our usual 9.30am – 5pm window to ensure we’re able to meet your needs no matter where you are located.

Book your appointment via CareerHub.

Advice, support and guidance for disabled students

If you would like an appointment, guidance or advice we will work with you to ensure your accessibility requirements are met.

Please get in touch with us at:

Events cancelled or reconfigured

All face-to-face events have been cancelled until the end of term. With this in mind, we are hopeful to deliver sessions in the coming weeks virtually and plan to reschedule where possible.

View the events that are taking place on CareerHub.

Online Q&A sessions

We will continue to host regular Q&A sessions over the coming weeks. These sessions offer you the chance to put your questions about how the current situation is affecting your career plans to our team. We hope that wherever you are currently based, you’ll find the timing of one of these planned sessions useful.

Our planned sessions prior to the Easter break are as follows:
Tuesday 7 April, 5-6pm (BST)
Wednesday 8 April, 9-10am (BST)

Visit CareerHub to book your place.

Employer events and activities

Employers have indicated to us their commitment to ensuring continuity, where possible, with recruitment and selection procedures, internship and job opportunities.

Each employer is monitoring the current situation carefully and following local policy and guidance from the government.

Some employers have indicated that face-to-face assessment centres will be moved online e.g. video interviews and online exercises; whilst others have confirmed there are no planned changes.

Some Spring Weeks will continue as planned, whilst others have been cancelled or will be delivered as a virtual programme. Employers have reassured us that they will be in direct communication with effected students to provide timely updates.

Job opportunities and off-campus employer events will continue to be posted on CareerHub and any important changes will be communicated as soon possible.
