The Volunteer Centre is delighted to launch a new series of events for the 2020/21 academic year called “Take Action”. The seminars in this programme will explore some of the most pressing issues facing society and how the LSE community can make a difference. We are starting with the issue of homelessness but we will also explore climate change, racial inequality, educational inequality and others.
We’re launching this programme, with the support of Student Futures, for two reasons. Firstly, through our research and listening to LSE students, we understand that whilst there is a huge passion to get involved in many causes sometimes students aren’t sure how to start, what skills they have to offer or they are just unaware of the opportunities available. Secondly, we believe in the theory of Learning Service, where volunteers must first look to understand an issue before trying to contribute.
These seminars will help supply students with the relevant context and information for the issues they care about but also give them tangible steps, and well signposted opportunities, for how they can contribute. This will mainly be volunteering but other ways, such as research will also be discussed.
The events will be listed on our website and we look forward to empowering many more students to volunteer for causes that they’re passionate about.
