It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vhon Barrett.
Vhon joined LSE in October 1999 and served as part of the Estates Maintenance team for almost 25 years.
He was also a member of LSE’s staff network EmbRace, and his enthusiasm for the group’s mission and community did not go unnoticed.
Vhon was my good friend and a joy to be around. Though he didn’t talk much, when he did, his words often filled me with laughter! My heart goes out to all his friends and family.
May his soul rest in peace!
Vhon was a good friend of mine and a joy to be around. Though he didn’t talk much, when he did, his words often filled me with laughter. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family.
May his soul and the soul of all those who have departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace!
I was very sorry to hear of Vhon’s passing which came as a terrible shock because I didn’t know he was poorly. Vhon was a committed trade unionist and a long-standing member of LSE UNISON branch, he never missed a meeting. I last saw him at the 2024 Branch AGM in March when he was full of his usual sparkle and humour. Vhon had a presence in any room, he always made meaningful contributions, often heartfelt, which each time lead to a fuller discussion of the issue at hand. He was a strong personality with his dry humour and wry takes, every now and then aimed at some of the personalities involved. He could lighten the mood when things got difficult or when he sensed others’ frustration or tiredness. He was unique and will be missed hugely, especially by those who knew him well. Sincere condolences to his friends and family. Thanks for all the laughs, Vhon, for doing all you could and for playing your part. In solidarity comrade, a luta continua!
We are deeply saddened by the recent death of our comrade Vhon Barrett. Vhon was a long-standing member of the branch and held positions on the Branch Committee, including as a negotiator and in more recent years as Health and Safety Officer.
We remember him fondly as an activist who spoke truth to power, who stuck up for his fellow colleague and worked to make LSE a better workplace.
Vhon was one of a kind, with a sharp and incisive wit, and we will miss him sorely.
Rest in power, Vhon.
Solidarity forever!

It was always nice to Vhon’s face around campus – he will be greatly missed by a lot of people here at LSE.
My condolences go to Vhon family and colleagues at the LSE. We will surely missed such a great passionate worker like him.
