‘Absent from the Academy’ is a film by Nathan E. Richards (A Narrative Media) about the relative absence of black academics and professors in UK Higher Education Institutions. There are 18,500 professors in the UK, only 85 (0.4%) of those are from African and Caribbean background whereas people from African and Caribbean backgrounds form 3.3% of UK population and 5.9% of UK student population. The film explores the impact of this underrepresentation on students, institutions, curricula and wider society.
