We are pleased to present an interview with Natacha Postel-Vinay by Tehreem Husain, recently published by the Toynbee Prize Foundation.  Dr Postel-Vinay is an economic and financial historian at the Department of Economic History, LSE, and an expert on the economic history of the Great Depression. Her research currently focuses on the connections between bank risk-taking, banking crises, banking crisis resolution, public debt, and moral hazard, all from a historical perspective. This interview, conducted by Dr Tehreem Husain (Power Fellow, LSE), examines her thoughts on the current economic environment, in which world economics are undergoing the triple challenges of war (Ukraine), COVID19 and the resurgence of inflation, and how history informs the present.

The first part of this interview focuses on understanding similarities and differences between current experiences of inflation, war, and pandemic and the interwar period.  In the second part, Dr Postel-Vinay offers some solutions to the present crisis while highlighting the risks to recovery.
