Allan Sutherland is one of the most passionate poets on the disability arts scene and Nancy Willis is a disabledĀ visual artist who has recently been developing her ideas in the moving image and animation (see Nancy’s work on http://www.nancywillis.co.uk/). The two animations presented below are based on ‘The Explorer’, a cycle of transcription poems by Allan Sutherland from the words of Nancy Willis.

Allan Sutherland presented his poems at LSE in May 2011 in the Disability Identity Conference organised by LSE’s Disability and Wellbeing Service. For the full cycle of poems by Allan Sutherland, please visit Disability Arts Online at http://www.disabilityartsonline.org.uk/The-Explorer
This is so fantastic! Allan’s work is poignant and thought provoking and brought the room to a roaring applause. A great way to talk about disability beyond the rigid confines of academic writing.
