October is Black History Month in the UK – to celebrate, LSE has a range of programmes and resources on offer, including film screenings and a conference in addition to mentoring programmes and our BME staff network. Details in the post below.

Lunchtime film screening: Audre Lorde – the Berlin Years

Wednesday 9 October, 12.30-2pm, 32L.B.09

This film celebrates a little known part of Audre Lorde’s life when she was a visiting professor in Berlin. During this time, Lorde ignited the Afro-German movement, empowering black women to write and to publish and challenging white women to recognise the significance of their privilege.

Black Achievement Conference

The Black Achievement Conference is a free one-day event for African-Caribbean students in Years 10, 11 and 12, and their parents and carers. For more information, please see Widening Participation.

Stellar HE

LSE is offering two places on the Stellar HE Programme to black and minority ethnic staff on bands 7 and above. B-MEntor

B-MEntor is a cross-institutional mentoring scheme aimed at enhancing career development opportunities for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) academic and research staff. The scheme is run in partnership with University College London (UCL), King’s College, Brunel University, Imperial College, the Institute of Education and Queen Mary, University of London.
