LSE IQ podcast: Should we fear the rise of the far right?

Right-wing populism is on the rise across the globe. The US, Brazil, India, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Poland have radical right-wing politicians as leaders or in government. Far right parties have also chalked up major electoral triumphs in countries like Sweden, France and Germany. And the UK’s vote to leave the EU was a decision encouraged, in part, by populist rhetoric. Meanwhile Steve Bannon, a former Trump strategist, has relocated to Brussels and is attempting to mobilise a hard right network in the coming European parliamentary elections.

In this episode of LSE IQ podcast, Joanna Bale asks ‘Should we fear the rise of the far right?’ She talks to LSE’s Simon Hix and Marta Lorimer, as well as Matthew Feldman of the Centre for Analysis of the Radical Right and Sara Khan, Britain’s first counter-extremism commissioner.

Each episode of LSE IQ sees a range of LSE academics, and other experts, line up to give their perspective on one timely question. For all episodes of LSE IQ, please visit http://lse.ac.uk/iq or search for ‘LSE IQ’ in your favourite podcast app.
