On 27 May FIFA was thrown into turmoil when several of its senior officials were arrested under an American led investigation into alleged corruption within the organisation. As the global governing body for ‘the world’s biggest sport’ these revelations have generated huge interest and intense scrutiny, with the media and commentators alike poring over every detail of the story.

We sat down with Professor Martin Lodge to discuss the ongoing saga. What prompted the US investigation and what is the nature of the allegations FIFA is facing? What is the future for Sepp Blatter, who has held the FIFA presidency since 1998? What are the implications for other governing bodies, such as UEFA, and, ultimately, the way football is governed worldwide? Martin gives his expert analysis.
