Wallet feeling a little light after a few too many rounds of drinks? Not able to concentrate after a little too much time studying and not quite enough time spent cooking? Can’t stand another Tesco or Co-op meal deal? While the Kingsway area near campus plays host to plenty of high street favourites (Costa, Wasabi, Itsu, etc…), eating the same Pret sandwich everyday gets a bit old. No need to fret! There are plenty of great places to eat around campus which will keep your tummy and your bank account happy.

Here’s our rundown of some of the most unique lunchtime deals and discounts for under ten pounds a portion! Click on the map at the bottom for the full interactive experience!

Wright’s Bar, Houghton St

Any fresh-faced LSE student will quickly discover Wright’s Bar, the hole-in-wall cafe as old as the Old Building next to which it sits. Offering some of the best chips in London (That’s french fries, for those of you not yet in the know) and super affordable custom made sandwiches and fry-ups for less than a fiver, it’s no wonder that it always has long lines around lunchtimes.

Byron, 24-28 Charing Cross Rd

Byron Burger is a crowd pleaser and a few steps above a McDonalds lunch. Their burgers are great and are served with a side of fries or a salad for a very reasonable price. You can usually get a 30% discount through UniDays and 50% off on Tuesdays bringing your meal to under 10 pounds. Quite a few locations are temporarily closed, but the Charing Cross Byron’s is still open.

Field’s Bar and Cafe, Lincoln’s Inn Fields

For those seeking a slightly fancier choice or wanting to enjoy a little greenery around their lunches, look no further than Fields Bar and Cafe situated right by the tennis courts in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. You can get up to 20% off all of their award-winning coffee and wood oven pizzas just by showing them your LSE card.

A little further afield, there’s plenty of amazing lunchtime deals across Kingsway towards Covent Garden, for those who know where to look. Many restaurants there offer great pre-theatre lunchtime deals, ensuring that you’ll get your food quickly and on the cheap.

Beyond the big chains like Byron Burger, from which you can get discounts through Unidays, here’s a couple of lesser-known favourites:

Cafe Murano (36 Tavistock St)

Cafe Murano is a great place for upscale dining and dates, but try their smaller space next door, Pastificio, for some incredible handmade pasta and coffees. Starting at just 5 pounds a portion for their pastas of the day, it’s one of the best places near campus for those seeking their daily al dente. Take the opportunity to bring home some of their pastas and sausages too – you won’t regret it!

YORI, Covent Garden

YORI Covent Garden is a delicious spot for Korean BBQ by night, but its afternoon lunch deals for students are killer value. Ten pounds will get you a hot steaming bowl of rice, a selection of banchans (side dishes), miso soup, and your choice of a bulgogi meat dish or soondubu jjigae (soft tofu soup). A super comforting choice for the coming winter months.

Bar Polski, 11 Little Turnstile

Bar Polski by night has some of the best drinks around LSE with a huge selection of spirits, but their lunch offerings are nothing to sniffle at, either. Come in and try their delicious selection of Polish classic foods, including arguably the best pierogi or kielbasa which you’re likely to find on this side of London.

Guido’s, 90 Chancery Lane

For those seeking a quick to-go pasta option, Guido’s offers excellent takeaways nearby LSE at their Chancery Lane store for under 8 pounds a portion. Send in your order on their website during your lecture, and your hot meal will be ready to go as soon as you arrive.

Hiba, 113 High Holborn

Hibo by Holborn Station offers delicious Lebanese and Palestinian foods, and is especially good if you’re looking for a fresh alternative which you can take back to campus when you’re rushing for a class.
