2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the Nobel Prize won by liberal political economist F A Hayek. Professor Bruce Caldwell spoke at an LSE public event to mark the occasion, taking in Hayek’s early life, his time at LSE, and the implications of his ideas for contemporary politics.
F A Hayek was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1974. He had been a leading professor of economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 1931 until 1950, and was made an Honorary Fellow in 1972.
