On Thursday 11th May Christine Whitehead spoke at the Home Builders Federation Annual Policy Conference on the topic ‘Why is Housing Policy such a Mess?’ She argued that it is not all just politics, politics and politics but that there are fundamental reasons why it is so difficult to either generate a coherent housing policy or to maintain it in the face of changing economic and social pressures. The presentation (in honour of John Stewart, who played an outstanding role in helping to ensure the effectiveness of the HBF in discussions with government until his early death in 2018) was based on a short introductory report published earlier in the year and the research that we are doing for a second report due to be launched in early June.
