Hi, my name is Akina 👋🏽. I’m a marketing enthusiast with a passion for culture, entertainment, and branding. I love using my creativity to explore new opportunities in marketing strategies and promote cross-cultural connections.

Over the past few years, I graduated from the University of Exeter, gained work experience in digital marketing, and worked abroad at Walt Disney World in Florida. Along the way, I’ve deepened my passion for marketing and cultural exchange, which now drives me to further my studies at LSE.

🌐 Our ever-evolving digital landscape

From start-ups to the world’s biggest companies, everyone needs marketing. But does everyone truly understand what marketing is? And how do you make your brand truly stand out from the rest? Marketing isn’t just about posting on social media – it’s about strategy, relationships, and storytelling.

From print to digital, marketing has evolved tremendously over the past decades. Social media has brought audiences online, COVID-19 accelerated the rise of digital marketing, and businesses have rapidly adapted their strategies to engage consumers in the ever-evolving digital landscape. So, what’s next?

It’s a dream come true to learn about marketing, explore diverse cultures, and meet new people every day at LSE.

In 2024, we saw the advancement of AI and how it reshaped the marketing industry. However, moving beyond superficial and generic interactions, authenticity stands out as an important element for brands to foster genuine relationships with their audiences. Not surprisingly, a growing marketing trend in 2025 is moving from URL to IRL, bringing brands into real life to build communities that extend beyond the digital space.

The marketing world is changing every day, and that’s what excites me. It’s a dream come true to learn about marketing, explore diverse cultures, and meet new people every day at LSE. So, let me share more about my marketing journey at LSE with you!

💼 Programme framework and opportunities

Unlike other universities, the MSc Marketing programme at LSE balances both theory and practical exercises, where we learn both the science and the art of marketing. From understanding consumer behaviour and analysing data to leveraging marketing strategies and technology, I’ve learned how to measure key metrics, deliver tailored marketing campaigns, and help companies achieve their goals in a competitive world.

In addition to core concepts and frameworks, lecturers facilitate engaging discussions on the latest marketing trends and real-world case studies. This encourages us to step into the shoes of companies and brainstorm solutions to recent business challenges and opportunities, positioning us ahead in the evolving marketing industry.

Department of Management careers event

Soft skills are especially important for marketers who need to communicate, collaborate, and think creatively on a daily basis. At LSE, we are provided with opportunities to develop these soft skills through a balance of assessments, including presentations, simulations, essays, and more. These assessments not only focus on individual work but also emphasise collaboration. By working as a team, we experience navigating team dynamics, solving problems together, and communicating effectively – skills that are all essential for success in the marketing industry.

Another highlight of the programme is the career events at LSE. Thanks to the Department of Management’s very own Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations (CAER) team, we’ve had the opportunity to attend networking events, workshops to build our skills, and webinars hosted by industry leaders. LSE Careers also provides one-to-one appointments and interview practice, helping you prepare for life after LSE.

💡 What makes LSE stand out

There are diverse opportunities for you to choose from based on your interests and goals. For me, I’ve taken on leadership roles, such as being a Student Ambassador for the Department of Management, where I connect with current and prospective students to foster an inclusive environment and support each other.

I’ve also had the opportunity to become a Student Ambassador for the Volunteer Centre, where I met people outside my cohort and encouraged students to volunteer and make a difference in our community. By participating in the Community Engagement Programme, I partnered with a real company to design a marketing roadmap aimed at raising their brand awareness. This gave me the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom directly into practice, while supporting a good cause. It was an invaluable experience that also enhanced my leadership, problem-solving, and public speaking skills.

LSE has not only helped me clarify my future path but also equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the competitive marketing industry.

Studying MSc Marketing at LSE has been challenging yet absolutely rewarding. From in-class activities to hands-on experiences, LSE has not only helped me clarify my future path but also equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the competitive marketing industry.

💭 My advice

If I could start my Master’s all over again, I would tell myself to say “yes” to every opportunity, as you’ll never know what will happen unless you try. So, enjoy every moment, meet new people, and embrace the journey.

Choosing a master’s programme is definitely an important process, so take your time to research and find the best option that suits you the most. No matter what decision you make, I wish you all the best!
