Is the world News Media really more free?

I’ve been asked to speak as part of an event to mark UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day. The debate is whether press freedom is in retreat or not. I won’t tell you what I am going to say, yet. What do you think? Are countries like Russia, Ethiopia and Uganda indications of a reversal of the post-Cold War gains? Does spin in the British media deny us proper political reporting? Is the US media now slave to the big corporations? Has the Chinese government blocked any internet dissent? Let me know what you think so we can all chip in to UNESCO’s big debate.
