On this day one year ago, Professor Roger Silverstone died. Roger was the head of the Media and Communications Department here at the LSE and the inspiration behind the creation of POLIS. He hired me and I had only just begun work when he died so suddenly. Everyone who knew Roger admired his agile and witty mind and his deep commitment to the moral potential of the media. His posthumous work Media and Morality is very much the guiding theoretical work for POLIS and is the core text for our Summer School which starts next week. In the next month we hope to announce the first recipient of the Silverstone Fellowship for Global Journalism. My thoughts are very much with his wife, Jennifer and his family.
