Second Life is a real-time version of The Sims, but is it more than a game? Daniel Nelson from OneWorld thinks it is, he is reporting virtually from the UN’s Bali Climate Change conference and is getting a (virtual) audience.
The last time I was in Bali 20 years ago I sat by a pool and scuba-dived, but that was in a world where long-distance travel was seen as exotic rather than a threat to the planet. Now new technology means we can meet online.
Of course, Daniel is still physically in Bali producing a stream of material that up to 50 people can watch on the Second Life ‘island’ devoted to the Bali conference so I am not sure quite how different this is to normal journalism. The interesting thing will be if it provokes any digital debate.
