peston1.jpgRobert Peston, the BBC’s business editor finds himself at the centre of the big story in more ways than one. He is working around the clock covering the financial crisis. Now he has also found that his sources are coming under scrutiny, with some Tories claiming that the Treasury has leaked market-sensitive information to Peston for political gain.

This all sounds to me like mutual spin and point-scoring as the Conservatives seek to take the shine off Gordon’s bank bail-out. They don’t appear to be accusing Peston of anything himself. But it does show how extraordinarily important and difficult his job is at the moment.

You can hear direct from Robert Peston himself when he speaks here at the LSE about his new book on November 17th. But you have to apply for tickets here.

We will be holding  seminar on financial journalism on the same day. Contact us at polis@lse.ac.uk if you are interested in taking part.
