The success story of mobiles in the developing world is already well known. There are now great hopes for similar success in extending access to broadband. This report looks at the conditions needed to enable growth in widespread access to data services and the internet.

POLIS is pleased to host the launch of the report which was commissioned by Vodafone and the World Wide Web Foundation

The report considers the potential for extending access beyond affluent urban users to the wider population and contains lessons for network service providers, data service businesses, governments and regulators.

This is the 12th in the series of public policy papers which discuss the socio-economic impact of mobile technology (SIM).

Diane Coyle OBE, Chair of the SIM Panel will open the debate. She will be joined by the report authors: Professor Howard Williams, Windfred Mfuh PhD, Professor David Souter and Luke van Hooft.

It’s on Thursday 19 May 2011 from 3.30–5.00pm

If you want to come please RSVP: Sachi Doctor, polis@lse.ac.uk
