DOWNLOAD THE JOURNALISM AI REPORT

Artificial intelligence, automation, machine learning are all technologies that are changing journalism around the world: but what are newsrooms actually doing with AI and what are the challenges and opportunities that it creates?

Six months ago, Polis launched JournalismAI, in collaboration with the Google News Initiative, to investigate questions at the intersection of journalism and artificial intelligence (AI). The stated goal was to foster literacy in newsrooms about the potential offered by AI technologies.

We gathered thoughts and experience of 70 news organisations from across the world that are already using AI for newsgathering, news production, or distribution. We are now combining their voices in a report that will try to paint a picture of what AI can, should, and shouldn’t be for journalism.

To present the findings of this research, we are delighted to announce that we will host a launch event on Monday, 18 November 2019, in partnership with Hacks/Hackers London.

Hacks/Hackers London is a vibrant community of journalists (“hacks”) and technologists (“hackers”), who meet on a monthly basis to network and discuss some of the most innovative trends at the intersection of journalism and technology.

In November, Hacks/Hackers London will dedicate its meet-up to the topic of artificial intelligence, hosting the launch of the JournalismAI report, along with presentations of some of the most interesting case-studies of the use of AI in journalism.

The event will take place at Google London (1-13 St Giles High St, London WC2H 8AG), starting at 18:30 BST on November 18th. Registrations will open in a few weeks via this link. You can sign up to the mailing list on the Hacks/Hackers LDN website to receive notifications when the tickets become available and to find out about future Hacks/Hackers LDN events.

Save the date and do not hesitate to get in touch with Mattia at M.Peretti@lse.ac.uk if you want to be added to our mailing list or have any questions about JournalismAI
