Welcome from the student editorial team!

From youth, what we want to be when we grow up is something that’s given a lot of focus. It can be tough therefore, when 18 has passed and BuzzFeed quizzes haven’t managed to dictate your dream job to you. The immense pressure from families, peers, educational intuitions and ‘grind doesn’t stop’ culture can be suffocating, and within this clamour of chaos it’s easy to become out of tune with our own desires.

LSE Student Futures seeks to prevent this, helping you to navigate the abundance of opportunities available at LSE and learn the skills needed to develop your own career narrative. This blog is here to provide the information needed to help you grow academically, personally and professionally, through the framework of social engagement, creativity, academic research and more.

For the rest of the academic year, the theme of the blog will be back to your future. We’ll be focusing on how you can take part in transformational learning experiences outside of the classroom, both for the remainder of the pandemic and as we begin to emerge into a post-COVID environment.

As students ourselves, we know that graduating into a world changed by a global pandemic can be an unsettling – even daunting! – prospect. That’s why we hope to help you learn how to enhance your creative thinking, gain new perspectives and experiences outside of your degree, and make an impact on wider society during these uncertain times, in line with the six Student Futures themes:

  • Investigating and Researching
  • Showcasing and Publishing
  • Engaging with Civic Issues
  • Creating and Innovating
  • Learning Off-Campus
  • Developing Your Career

Whether pulling together resources on navigating your career path in one place, or helping you discover new extracurricular opportunities, we are here to help you carve out your future and make your mark on the world.

We will be posting new blog entries regularly so watch this space! There is so much that we would like to share with you, but since this is a blog for students, by students, we would love to hear from you and incorporate your ideas too. Get in touch with the LSE Student Futures blog team by emailing communications.internal@lse.ac.uk and let us know what you would like to see! Leave us some feedback and we will work to serve up the content you crave.

Catch us in our next post!
