What are you studying?
Hello everybody. I am Ibrahim, an LSE Student Futures Ambassador. I am currently a Law undergraduate in my third and final year.
Why did you want to become a Student Futures Ambassador?
I want to work as an LSE Student Futures Ambassador because I believe in giving back and helping students who were in my position. Although it is great to have so many options, it is also easy to get lost. And as such, I want to share my knowledge and experiences with other students through this role, helping them make impactful decisions towards future career regardless of their backgrounds and previous experiences. During this process, I also aim to develop my interpersonal communication skills.
What theme are you focusing on and why did you choose that theme?
I am focusing on the learning off-campus theme. Having lived off-campus for three academic years, I would like to encourage students like me that they have certain advantages over those who live in halls. They can network through societies, experience different areas of London by traveling to and from campus, enjoy the peace of their own homes while learning, and build meaningful connections with other students living off-campus as they resonate with each other on that sense. Through this role, I want to emphasise to students that learning never ends, whether you are on or off-campus. You could be volunteering miles away from campus but still learn something new and develop your skillset.
What activities do you enjoy most related to that theme?
Personally, I enjoy having a space of myself, where I can decide independently on what kind of learning I want to engage in. Currently, I make use of Forage, a free online learning platform which has partnered with a variety of corporate entities including law firms. We will be awarded certificates upon completing various courses, but I attend Forage courses mainly to have a better understanding of what legal work entails. I also use Duolingo to learn Spanish. I do all of these without consulting other students, nor do I follow what they do, which gives me a better sense of independency and achievement.
Do you have any words of wisdom for students interested in getting involved in activities related to your theme?
In learning, you do not have to live with other students. There are plenty of resources you can use to develop yourself, and there will always be no harm to do so.
