Lost in London: Finding My Accommodation

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

No matter where I find myself, I am always lost. Whether I am traveling abroad or in my own hometown, I never fail to make a wrong turn or misread a map. Knowing this, I decided that I would research every inch of London before I left home so that I knew how to get anywhere by foot, bus or the Tube. I was determined, for the first time in my life, not to get lost.

When I finally arrived at Heathrow, I had my maps in hand and was ready to conquer the world. After weighing all of my options, I decided to take the Heathrow Express line to the Paddington Station so that I could get to my accommodation without having to transfer between Tube Lines. After wedging all of my luggage into the overhead compartments, I took my seat. With one great huff, the train began to move. As it made its way toward Paddington, I peered out the window from my seat and devoured all of the scenery. This will be your new home away from home, I told myself, and was proud of how far I had made it.

Eventually, the train pulled into Paddington Station and I was ready to embark on my new adventure. To prepare myself for the last leg of my trip, I pulled out my maps to take a quick peak but, much to my surprise, I had completely overlooked the route that I needed to take to get from the Tube station to my accommodation. I was so obsessed with how I would find my way everywhere else in London that I never thought to print out a map of how I would get to my new room. I quickly told myself not to panic and began to search the area for another map. Finally, I came upon a colossal map hanging on the wall of the station which was sure to get me to where I needed to go.

Unfortunately, a journey that was only supposed to take me ten minutes ended up taking me one hour. After consulting dozens of maps and making every wrong turn, I was relieved when I eventually found my street. I had finally made it home even if I did get a little lost along the way. Now, I was ready to relax!
