As the Lent term draws to a close, I let out a long sigh. It seems as if I have been holding my breath for the past three months. Now, more than ever, it is quite tempting to bask in my own lethargy which would be all too easy to excuse… to justify… especially because of the intensity of the past few months. I ask myself, for reasons dissimilar to those of the Dowager Countess of Grantham, ‘what is a weekend?’ The work of the week often spills over into my weekends. The rain never ceases and though I may need time to dry my wings before I take to flight once more, time is a deceptive mistress who makes us often think that she has more to offer. In actuality, there is never enough of her to go around. Thus, I must remain focused to ensure that I succeed. As is the case for most students at LSE, each mark for every course is 100% based upon a final exam. At best, all of the work that we have completed will pay off in the end and at worst, it will all be futile. It sometimes feels like a Sisyphean task even though the boulder often stays atop the mountain. Thus, I am convinced that this is the time in which we should be the most dedicated to our work. I encourage everyone to firmly take a hold of this opportunity to prepare for exams through revisions and to research for your dissertations but to also not have to ask yourself ‘what is a weekend?’ After all, how can you run a marathon while holding your breath?
Hi Courtney,
Thank you for your posts! They’re really interesting to read and make it so real, life as is at school.:) I would love to ask some questions if you have a moment. Let me know if that’s a possibility!
Thanks!
