There are almost constant reminders of the reputation and renown of LSE while studying here. Last week I received an email about a ‘filming opportunity’ on the LSE campus, and understandably was intrigued…

I arrived at the SU building not quite knowing what to expect, and met 4 fellow students, some of them postgraduates (and no other first years!), and a friendly French film director. He explained that he was producing a film for French and German audiences about globally renowned universities, and this week he was producing a section about LSE. We were taken up to the 6th floor roof terrace and told to put on LSE graduation gowns and caps (see picture!), then asked to act naturally while talking (which felt like the least natural thing ever), posing for pictures and staring “nonchalantly” into the distance. This was all a fairly surreal experience, especially having a film camera poking into your face or sliding past silently! The five of us also did the obligatory cap-throwing-above-your-head shots and then some pensive looking-into-the-mirror angles too – we basically don’t need to graduate now we have the photos!

The film will be shown by the ‘ARTE’ TV channel in France and Germany in due course – look out for the LSE stars, and possibly in Hollywood at some point!
