Moving to a new city, it’s hard to find out what is fun until you try it out. The social scene in London is electric and perfect for students. Here are some of my favorite nighttime activities that I would suggest for anyone new to London:
1. Tate Lates
Every last Friday of the month, the Tate Modern hosts Tate Lates. The whole museum is open until late and there is a live dj, fun activities, drinks, workshops, interactive exhibits, and much more. I usually go to the rooftop of the Tate Modern during the day, but seeing it at night is something else.
2. Plays/Musicals in the West End
LSE is so close to the Theatre District! I used to not watch many plays or musicals, but now I am addicted. There are student prices and lottery tickets for some shows, so it can be affordable! I have seen King Lear, Kinky Boots, Whitney the Musical, Chicago, and many more. A lot of big celebrities tend to perform in these shows as well!
In addition to the George, the bar and club scene in London is exciting! The Shoreditch area and Liverpool street are always a good time. If you want something closer to campus, there are a lot of bars/clubs that students go to in Leicester Square and Covent Garden.
4. Concerts and Music Festivals
The music scene in London is one of the greatest! Some of my favorite artists made their start in London and they always go back to some classic venues like the Eventim Apollo, the Brixton, to name a few. Over the summer, there are a lot of music festivals in London and you can get tickets to see some of the biggest artists in the world for a cheap price.
5. Late Night Eats
If you’re trying to fulfill a craving or eat before going out, many places are open late and are great for a late night dinner or snack! I love to get some fish and chips at Poppy’s or ice cream in Seven Dials!
6. Spontaneous Adventures with Friends
Even though I love planning ahead, some of the best nights in London are the most spontaneous! Just the other day, some friends and I had dinner and walked along the River Thames and hung out in a random stairway the whole night!
As I always keep saying in most of my other blog posts: If you’re only here for a month, study hard, but try to make the most out of your experience and explore London!
