“Here the journey starts. Alone in this city of rich history, excitement, and opportunities.”

[An extract from my diary on 22nd September 2018]

Hi everyone, I am a first-year undergraduate studying Accounting & Finance at LSE. This is the story of a student-tourist in London trying to explore and settle down.

For someone like me that gets sick on a plane, the fact that we put ourselves on a plane for 10+ hours to be here shows a great deal of determination. I will never forget the moment when I walked out of the Heathrow airport terminal. Pulling two heavy suitcases with two backpacks on my shoulders, I realized that my cherished dream of living in London has come true.

I am sure you’ve heard of the famous line by Samuel Johnson, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.”

After a month here, I cannot agree more. London never fails to amaze me as a city. Wings of pigeons flattering in Trafalgar Square on Sunday mornings, rays of warm sunshine along the avenue to the magnificent Buckingham Palace, a handsome Italian musician plucking strings of his guitar…

Here are a few reasons why London offers the most for a student.

Cheap Trips to Europe

It is not uncommon that people spend their weekends in Prague or Bath just for a little change. Order a 16-25 railcard online, the saved train fares cover the total price of your 16-25 railcard with only two to three round trips! (Yes, that’s how accounting students do maths)

Reminder: Go for the digital card because it can take months (seriously, months!) for the card to get to you and it saves you the trouble of taking the card with you wherever you go.

Surprise!

London proves to be the best place for running into celebrities randomly on the street. I have friends who went out for a walk and just bumped into Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Stone, Nicolas Kidman, Tom Hiddleston, Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Cathy Newman… The list can go on forever really because there are just so many of them running around waiting for us to see them! 😉

Keep yourself tuned in for a detailed list of popular places visited by celebrities. 😉

Artistic Flavour

With its unrivalled history and culture, please take advantage of student discounts and lottery tickets at the handful of theatres in London. Hint: free entrance to National Gallery on Friday nights!

Having three years ahead of me as an LSE student, I feel like the luckiest girl. Join me on my journey so we can explore this city together! I can’t wait to share my stories with you.
