Did you know just outside of London, in Surrey, you can find a beautiful lavender field? From June until September, the Mayfield Lavender Farms open their gates to the public when the lavenders are in full bloom.

Over the past few years, the Farms have become a popular visitor attraction, especially because of the picturesque natural beauty. It makes for the perfect day trip from London.

Where: 

The Mayfield Lavender Farms is located in Banstead SM7 3JA in Surrey, which is approximately 15 miles from Central London. 

When to go:

The farms are open from the 1st of June until the end of August on all days of the week from 9 AM to 6 PM. However, I would recommend you to go on a weekday as it gets extremely busy on the weekends. Also, try to go on a bright, sunny day to capture the best photographs.

How to get there:

The best way to get there would be to take the Thameslink service from the London Bridge Station towards the Gatwick Airport and alight on the Purley Station, which would take about 25 minutes.  

Alternatively, one could take the Thameslink service towards Horsham and alight at the Coulsdon South Station, which is approximately a 30 minutes ride. 

From Purley or Coulsdon South Station, take the Bus 166 towards Banstead and get off at the Oaks Park Station stop, which is right in front of the Mayfield Lavender Farms. At times, the bus might be overcrowded, especially on the weekends and I would suggest taking a cab in that case from the Coulsdon South or Purley Station.

Entrance:

The entrance fee is just £2.50 per person and available to buy at the entrance. A good thing about the entrance fee is that it includes a voucher worth the same amount that can be redeemed at the Mayfield Lavender Shop, a 20-minute bus ride from the farms or even at their online shop. The shop sells lavender plants, lemonades and cookies infused with lavender.

What to do there:

Take a stroll in the lavender fields while you capture beautiful pictures of your friends against the stunning landscape. It is a delightful experience, and you are certainly bound to have a lot of fun taking some remarkable pictures that are surely Instagram-worthy.  Although not an essential, the farms also have a tractor ride to have a look around the farms for just £2 per person. After enjoying the farms, have a nice meal at the cafe, with the option of buying lavender plants if you want to carry them back home.
