3 Storm-Proof Activities to do this Weekend

With stormy weather looming over London, it would be easy to just stay indoors and in bed. If you’re still willing to brave the rain and go out, here are some of my recommended things you can do inside while staying dry:

Sir John Soane Museum

The Sir John Soane Museum is within spitting distance of the LSE’s campus, so if you are in the library studying and need a break or just need something to do when the weather sucks, it’s a unique and curious little place that’s worth checking out. It’s open on Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 AM to 5 PM, and you will have to book tickets in advance.

The museum was once the residence of architect Sir John Soane, who designed the Bank of England. At Lincoln Inn Field’s, he merged three buildings into one and filled it with all sorts of odd features. The museum also has special exhibitions sometimes. Currently, there is an exhibition on the shortlisted entries of the Architecture Drawing Prize from 2020 and 2021.

Picturehouse Central Theatre

Picturehouse Central is my favourite movie theatre in London, and movies are a great way to still get out and do something when it’s bad weather. It’s located right near Piccadilly Circus and the edge of Chinatown. If you prefer to see your films on a huge screen like an IMAX, it’s not the cinema for you. It’s a smaller place but has a nice ambience. Inside, it has a restaurant and a café for all meals of the day. It’s perfect for dinner and a movie all in one place.

If you’re a movie fanatic and want to become a member, there’s an additional member’s bar and rooftop terrace (although this isn’t suitable for stormy weather).

The Parlour at Fortnum & Mason

For anyone with a sweet tooth, Fortnum and Mason’s Parlour is the place to be. Not only is the entire store a feast for the eyes and a beautiful place to spend time browsing, but the Parlour is a fun place to grab a bite to eat. They have whimsical sundaes or something savoury for whatever mood you’re in.

However, my favourite aspect of the Parlour is the make-your-own sundaes. The bonus is that if you get it once, Fortnum & Mason gives you a lifetime pin. Bringing this pin along with you whenever you go back entitles you to free toppings the next time you make a sundae. Although you can enjoy it regardless of the weather or season, it will definitely uplift you when the sky is grey.
